Individual Therapy in New York

Understand Your Patterns. Navigate Change. Create a More Intentional Life.

You may be functioning well on the outside while privately feeling stuck, disconnected, or uncertain about what needs to change.

Perhaps you are recovering from a breakup or divorce, questioning a relationship, navigating a career transition, or repeatedly finding yourself in dynamics that leave you feeling anxious, frustrated, or unfulfilled. You may understand intellectually what is happening but still struggle to respond differently.

Individual therapy offers a space to slow down, make sense of what you are experiencing, and understand how your relationships, history, beliefs, and current circumstances may be shaping your life.

I provide individual therapy virtually throughout New York.

Is Individual Therapy Right for You?

You do not need to be in crisis or know exactly what you want from therapy before beginning.

Individual therapy may be helpful if you are:

  • Recovering from a breakup, separation, or divorce

  • Struggling with dating or recurring relationship patterns

  • Questioning whether to remain in a relationship

  • Navigating infidelity, betrayal, or the loss of trust

  • Having difficulty setting or maintaining boundaries

  • Experiencing anxiety, stress, loneliness, or diminished self-worth

  • Adjusting to marriage, remarriage, parenthood, relocation, or another major transition

  • Reconsidering your identity, career, or direction in life

  • Affected by a partner’s or family member’s addiction

  • Pursuing recovery or a sober life

  • Trying to understand how your family of origin continues to influence you

  • Feeling successful in many areas of your life but dissatisfied in your relationships

Sometimes people begin therapy because of a specific event. Others come with a less defined feeling that something is no longer working. Both are valid starting points.

Relationship-Focused Individual Therapy

Our closest relationships often reveal the patterns, fears, expectations, and protective strategies we have developed over time.

You may withdraw when conversations become uncomfortable, become highly anxious when you sense distance, remain in relationships that do not meet your needs, or struggle to express what you want without guilt. These responses often make sense when considered within the context of your earlier experiences.

Therapy can help you better understand these patterns without blaming or pathologizing yourself. From there, we can explore new ways of responding that are more consistent with the relationships and life you want to create.

My Approach to Individual Therapy

My style is warm, active, and collaborative. I offer a supportive space while also asking thoughtful questions, sharing observations, and helping you notice patterns that may be difficult to recognize on your own.

Rather than focusing only on symptoms, we may explore:

  • How earlier relationships influence present ones

  • The beliefs and stories shaping how you see yourself

  • What happens emotionally when you feel rejected, criticized, or misunderstood

  • How you protect yourself during conflict or uncertainty

  • The difference between a healthy boundary and emotional avoidance

  • How stress, work, family, and other systems affect your well-being

  • What a more satisfying and intentional life would look like for you

Therapy is not about telling you what decision to make. My role is to help you understand yourself more fully, consider your choices with greater clarity, and make changes that feel authentic and sustainable.

Therapy Informed by Specialized Training and Lived Experience

My graduate training in marriage and family therapy focused on understanding individuals within the relationships, families, and larger systems that shape their lives. I draw from systemic, experiential, cognitive behavioral family therapy, and narrative approaches.

My work is also informed by clinical experience with relationship conflict, addiction, divorce, and significant life transitions.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent more than a decade working in storytelling and communications. I have also experienced divorce, remarriage, relocation, and career reinvention in my own life. These experiences contribute to my interest in how people understand their stories, navigate change, and create meaningful new chapters.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens during the first session?

We will talk about what brings you to therapy, relevant parts of your history, the relationships and circumstances affecting you, and what you hope may change. You will also have an opportunity to ask questions and get a sense of how I work.

Do I need to have a specific goal?

No. Some people begin with a clear concern, while others know only that they feel stuck or dissatisfied. Part of our early work can be clarifying what you want from therapy.

Can I attend individual therapy if my primary concern is my relationship?

Yes. Individual therapy can help you explore your own relationship patterns, needs, boundaries, and choices even if your partner does not participate.

Do you accept insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider. I can provide a superbill that you may submit for possible reimbursement through your out-of-network benefits. Coverage varies, so contact your insurance company directly to understand your plan.

How long will I be in therapy?

There is no universal timeline. Some clients seek focused support around a particular transition or decision, while others choose longer-term work centered on deeper patterns and personal growth.
